“What Does Islam Say About Jesus Moses and Other Prophets?”
If you’re Christian, Jewish, or just curious, you’ve probably heard: "Muslims respect Jesus". But what does that actually mean?
Do we believe in him? Do we reject Moses? Who are all these other names we read in the Quran?
Here’s the short answer that will surprise you:
Muslims believe in every prophet. Not some. All of them.
From Adam to Muhammad. Including Jesus in Islam and Moses in Islam.
No skipping. No deleting.
This is the story of one God, one message, and many messengers. Let’s tell it like humans.
Chapter 1: The Foundation - Prophets in Islam 101
In Islam, a Prophet is Nabi. A Messenger is Rasul.
The difference:
- Nabi: Receives revelation to follow previous law.
- Rasul: Receives a new book and new law.
How many?
The Prophet said: "Allah sent 124,000 prophets. 313 of them were messengers."
We only know 25 by name in the Quran.
The rule: "We make no distinction between any of them." Quran 2:285
That means we cannot say "I believe in Moses but not Jesus". That’s not Islam.
Chapter 2: Jesus in Islam - Isa ibn Maryam, The Messiah
This is where people get confused. So let’s be clear.
What Muslims Believe About Jesus:
- He is a Prophet and Messenger: One of the greatest 5. "Ulul Azm".
- He was born miraculously: No father. Maryam was a virgin. The Quran has a whole chapter named "Maryam".
- He spoke as a baby: And defended his mother.
- He performed miracles: Healed the sick, gave life to clay birds, by Allah’s permission.
- He is the Messiah: Al-Masih.
- He was not crucified: God raised him to heaven. Someone else was made to look like him.
- He will return: Before the Day of Judgment, to establish justice.
What Muslims Do NOT Believe:
- He is not God: "The Messiah, son of Mary, was not but a messenger."
- He is not the son of God: "God does not beget, nor was He begotten."
- He was not crucified for sins: In Islam, everyone is responsible for their own deeds.
The Quran says: "Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allah is like that of Adam. He created him from dust; then He said to him, 'Be,' and he was."
Jesus in Islam is loved deeply. We say "Peace be upon him" every time.
We believe in his message: Worship Allah alone. Love your neighbor. Be humble.
A Muslim and a Christian can both cry at the story of Jesus and Mary. That’s common ground.
Chapter 3: Moses in Islam - Musa Kaleemullah, The One Who Spoke to God
If Jesus is loved, Moses in Islam is respected as a warrior for truth.
What the Quran Says About Moses:
- He spoke directly to Allah: Kaleemullah. That’s a title no other prophet has.
- He received the Torah: Tawrah. A real book from God.
- He freed the Children of Israel: From Pharaoh.
- He did miracles: Staff into snake, parting the sea.
- He was patient: With a stubborn nation for 40 years.
The Quran tells Musa’s story more than any other prophet. Why? Because his struggle is our struggle:
Standing up to tyrants. Dealing with doubt. Leading people who complain.
Muslims believe: The original Torah was from God. What we have today has been changed by humans. But the core message was the same: "There is no god but Allah."
When Muslims fast Ashura, it’s because Moses fasted that day after crossing the sea.
Moses in Islam is not "their prophet". He’s our prophet too.
Chapter 4: Abraham, Noah, Adam - The Big Three
Let’s go back.
1. Adam
The first human. The first prophet.
He made a mistake, he repented, and God forgave him.
Lesson: God’s mercy is bigger than your sin.
2. Noah
Preached for 950 years. 950.
Built an ark while people laughed.
Lesson: Keep going even when no one believes you.
3. Abraham
Khalilullah - Friend of God.
Broke idols. Was thrown in fire and it became cool.
Built the Kaaba with his son Ismail.
Lesson: Surrender completely to God.
All prophets in Quran share 3 things:
- They were human. Ate, slept, cried.
- They called to "Worship Allah alone".
- They were tested hard.
Chapter 5: The Women, The Kings, The Others
The Quran doesn’t just talk about men.
- Maryam: The only woman named in the Quran. A surah is named after her. Model of purity.
- Asiya: Wife of Pharaoh. Believed in Moses and died for it.
- Bilqis: Queen of Sheba. Smart, accepted Islam.
- Dhul-Qarnayn: King and prophet. Traveled the world doing justice.
- Luqman: Wise man, not a prophet, but God gave him wisdom and mentioned him.
- Yusuf: Story of betrayal, prison, forgiveness.
- Yunus: Ran from his mission, was swallowed by a whale, repented.
Islamic view of prophets = they are role models, not gods.
We don’t worship them. We learn from them.
Chapter 6: The One Message - What All Prophets Said
If you put all 124,000 prophets in one room, they would say 1 sentence:
"Worship Allah alone, and don’t associate partners with Him."
Noah said it.
Abraham said it.
Moses said it.
Jesus said it.
Muhammad said it.
The laws changed. Prayer changed. Fasting changed.
But the core never changed.
That’s why Muslims say: "Islam" means submission. And every prophet was Muslim.
Not "Muslim" as in the religion today. But "Muslim" as in "one who submits to God."
Chapter 7: What Does Islam Say About Jesus Moses and Other Prophets - The 5 Beliefs
To be Muslim, you must believe this:
- Believe they are all true: No cherry picking.
- Believe they didn’t lie: They delivered the message.
- Believe they are the best of humans: But still human.
- Believe their miracles were real: By God’s permission.
- Believe Muhammad is the last: No prophet after him.
If you reject one, you reject all.
That’s why insulting any prophet is haram in Islam.
Where Muslims and Others Agree and Disagree
Let’s be honest, like neighbors.
With Christians:
Agree: Jesus was born miraculously, did miracles, is Messiah, will return.
Disagree: He is God, he was crucified for sins, he is son of God.
With Jews:
Agree: Moses received Torah, parted the sea, is a great prophet.
Disagree: The Torah today is corrupted, and Muhammad is also a prophet.
With Everyone:
Agree: Prophets were good people.
Disagree: Whether we should pray to them or not. Muslims say no.
Stories That Will Break Your Heart
This is what textbooks don’t teach.
- Yusuf: Brothers threw him in a well. He became king and forgave them.
- Ayyub: Lost everything. Was sick for years. Never cursed God.
- Zakariya: Old man who wanted a child. Got Yahya.
- Muhammad: Orphan, lost kids, was stoned in Taif, still said "Guide my people".
These are not myths. Muslims believe these happened.
And we tell them to our kids so they learn patience.
Why This Matters in 2026
What Does Islam Say About Jesus Moses and Other Prophets matters because:
- It builds bridges: A Muslim can say "I believe in your prophet too".
- It stops hate: You can’t hate Jesus if you’re Muslim.
- It gives hope: If God helped them, He can help you.
- It shows unity: One God, one message, for all humans.
A convert told me: "The day I read about Maryam in the Quran, I cried. I didn’t know Muslims loved her."

- Do Muslims believe the Bible and Torah? We believe the original ones were from God. But they have been changed by humans. The Quran is the final, preserved book.
- Why is Muhammad the last prophet? Because the message is complete. No need for another update.
- Do Muslims love Jesus? Yes. More than we love ourselves. But we love him as a prophet, not as God.
- What about prophets we don’t know? We believe in them too. God sent a prophet to every nation.
- Can I be a good person without following a prophet? God is just. But following a prophet is the safest path.
